In a statement made to The Commentariat, Cheryl Berg, Former Vice President of Student Life who resigned in January due to time commitments refuted statements supporting Cunningham, saying that although “Cunningham admitted that he could have been a better president… the road to hell, much like Cunningham’s Reign of Terror (or not?), is paved with good intentions” and not much else. And speaking of time commitments, Berg slammed Cunningham’s friends who used the amount of hours Cunningham works to his favor, responding that “Anyone can sit around and think all day. Success is measured by results, by action.”
In response to the failed impeachment, Berg saw victory in how members of the council “stood up, and demanded accountability, apologized for shortcomings and worked within the bounds of our Constitution to correct a mistake.” Berg also criticized the abstained voters for being undemocratic and indifferent. “Your silence and indifference is a disgrace and disservice to your constituents and I call for you to resign your posts immediately” Berg said at the end of her statement.
So concludes GSSC’s annum horriblis. Here’s hoping the GSSC three-ring-circus doesn’t seep into next year–and that Columbia’s significant non-traditional student community gets the functioning student council it so badly needs and deserves.
