After what seems like years of vacillation and many a CCSC term later, the highly over-anticipated and slightly over-rated idea of Flex off-campus has finally been implemented. Keeping it at only a few locations, it’s only at its beta stage. But walk into Nussbaum and Wu now and you can use your card. Give it a few more hours for Hamilton Deli and a few weeks for Westside Market.
CCSC candidate, George Krebs explained that the pending system “has been my baby for the last two years.” And as babies usually do, they grow out of their crib of conceptual incubation and take a step closer to the real world.
This move may go either way in terms of favoring students or retailers. But a strategic unfoldment of the plan would ensure that flex off-campus does not monopolize the area but instead encourages competition, Columbia-only promotions, and more. And for the love of God, don’t let the system reach Morton Williams, a conveniently-placed goldmine that doesn’t need any more reason to have more customers to purchase their conveniently-hyperinflated prices.
