Launched in late August, 2007 by 2005 Duke University graduate Matt Ivester, JuicyCampus is pushing the limits of free speech. Not even Bollinger can back this website up–this site is all kinds of fucked-up.
The way it works is that people can access gossip and “juice” on various campuses, including our own. On Columbia’s juice temple, one can find hugely unnecessary comments about who the biggest slut on campus is, or which guy has the biggest shlong. Clearly, Ivy-League quality material. There is absolutely no glimmer of a doubt that JuicyCampus is a huge danger to campus environment, especially in light of things like this, where a student from Loyola Marymount University posted:
“I am going to shoot and kill as many people as I can until which time I am incapacitated or killed by the police.”
The website is the hate-mongerer’s dream and any possible ban imposed by Columbia would simply draw more attention to the site. The only real solution? Get rid of JuicyCampus altogether.
Ivester made a statement in support of the site, saying that ”college students are clever and fun-loving, and we wanted to create a place where they could share their stories.” What were you thinking, Ivester?
Looking at some of the topics, that site is horrid. Racism, sexism, and social cruelty prevails.
