In a meeting reminiscent of last term’s fuss around core reform, Barnard students met up at town hall last night to discuss how their Nine Ways of Knowing will change, grow and develop. In light of recent hate crimes and Barnard senior Svati Lelyveld’s claims that “Barnard women are well-equipped to go out in the world to talk about feminism”, Barnard thought it was about time to start sharing their focus onto other important issues such as race and ethnicity. The Nine Ways of Knowing itself is a new academic framework having come into fruition in 2000, so this meeting is a great step forward towards having a dynamic curriculum.
In my ignorance, I never understood the so-called Nine Ways of Knowing–no-one really explained it to me. In my opinion, you either know or you don’t.
